“When ego is lost, limit is lost. You become infinite, kind, beautiful.”
Obsession: Charli XCX – “You’re the One”
So, I may be late to hop on the Charli XCX bandwagon, but better late than never! I cannot get enough of Charli, who first stepped onto the scene back in 2008. Well it’s been a long time coming for the English singer-songwriter, who’s only 20 years old, but already breaking through the international market with her debut EP, ‘True Romance’.
Charli XCX may sound familiar if you’ve been singing the spring’s breakup anthem, “I Love It” by Icona Pop featuring yours truly. If you love to sing that song at the top of your lungs then chances are you’ll be singing along to the catchy tunes on her EP.
My favorite track on the album is “You’re the One”, a bittersweet love song with a tough beat and melodic chorus. Charli teases us with Lady Gaga-esque lyrics like, “Dancing in the dark”, but don’t be fooled, she’s no Gaga wannabe! Charli XCX is able to hold her own on this track with her unique style and sound.
A love song wouldn’t be complete without tender lyrics that make you want to hug a loved one like, “You’re the one who can turn the page//You’re the one who came along and unlocked the cage…” Oh Charli, you have me smitten with my kitten!
The video does the song justice and is what you’d imagine the visual for the song to look like. Charli is seen in an abandon warehouse hopping around, not giving two shits about the random girls seen in the background. Her hair’s a mess, her leggings are torn and she’s wearing very high shoes—to sum it up, the video is a hot mess… in a good way! The mixture of hearts, roses, and warehouse are a good way to describe Charli—sweet and sassy.
Already on my summer playlist, I’ll be singing this song at the top of my lungs all season long, hoping that I’ll soon meet someone to coo sensitive lyrics like, “Three years before you I was feeling so heartless//But your bright shined through//Now I’m drinking love potion when I lay next to you.” I feel the love Charli… *tear*
Her whole album is amazing and can be listened from start to finish. Other notable tracks include, “Nuclear Seasons”, “You (Ha Ha Ha), and “What I Like”.

How to Get Over An Ex
It’s been a few months since I last updated my blog. I met someone, fell in love, and got my heart broken all within a 2 month period. I was dumped. My dumpee did so because he was still in love with his ex, felt like he couldn’t go on with our relationship while still having feelings for his ex, he was sorry, blah blah blah! Fuck it. Love is just greed anyways (thanks Passion Pit for the anthem).
Breakups are hard and the longer the relationship, the even harder it is to get over that person. Luckily for me, it only took me a few weeks before I was twirling and being gone with the wind fabulous!
Now that I’m single *twirls* I’m getting back to me. I’m eating right, doing crossfit, reading, and discovering new music again. Life is good! Summer school session is right around the corner, so I’ll be plenty busy—and keeping busy is the key!
If you’re sulking, and we all do it… Get over it! Being single is fabulous, you get to do what you want, when you want. There’s no better time to be single than the summer too. Go crazy kids, twerk, twirl, take your top off, or do whatever it is ya’ll do these days.
Still need some advice? Check out the video below. It has helped me several times to get over exes. Sometimes all it takes is a good shift, and reality check to get you back on your feet!
Enjoy!
Meditation
Meditation has helped me throughout the years to gain more wisdom and understanding of myself. I highly recommend everyone take a few moments to meditate daily. Personally, it has helped me keep calm in heated situations, sleep better, and elevate my mood. I try to meditate for at least 20 minutes a day, but if I’m unable to do that, there will be moments throughout the day where I just close my eyes for a few minutes and relax. Also, stepping outside in silence and focusing on your surroundings in a positive way is helpful too. There are so many benefits of meditation, which include relaxation, slowing of heart rate, and the reduction of anxiety to name a few.
I like to meditate upon waking up when my mind is fresh and doesn’t have much going on because it’s easy to get distracted when meditating. I like to sit on a yoga mat, Indian style, or I’ll switch it up and lay flat on my back (if you fall asleep easily, sitting may be best for you). I usually put on meditation music I find from YouTube. One of my favorite meditations to do is the OM meditation. I enjoy OM because it’s easy to focus on the vibration of the word, which makes it easier for me to concentrate on nothing but the OM. You can also meditate by repeating OM to feel the vibration throughout your whole body—I find it very relaxing. You can read more about OM meditation here: http://www.mastermeditation.com/meditation-ebooks-and-resources/guided-meditation/om-meditation/
Meditating in silence is also good! There’s no wrong way to meditate, so do whatever is comfortable for you. Whether you’re looking to rid yourself of physical ailments, get spiritual and awake, or just relax, meditation is great for all those things!

Aaliyah
I grew up listening to her music, her whole demeanor inspired me… the way she dressed, her way of dance, and her voice of course. Aaliyah was soft-spoken and had a mellow vibe, which transcended into her music. She couldn’t hit the highest notes, but she was able to carry a song and create timeless music. Growing up, I was soft-spoken, shy, and had a cool, calm, relaxed way of being and seeing Aaliyah really inspired me and gave me hope that I too could use those qualities through my music. Today, I embrace all those qualities about myself and create music without any reservation on whether I’m good enough.
Aaliyah would have been 34 years old today and in honor of her, I’m sharing my favorite Aaliyah song and video, “One in a Million”. If you had the opportunity to grow up with her music I think you’ll appreciate it, if you did not then I think you’ll quickly become a fan once you start listening to her music.
Aaliyah’s music will live on and she’ll always have a place in my heart. RIP.

New Year, New Me, Same Dream
I wrote my first song when I was 12 years old; it was called ‘Snowing in Cali’, ever since then I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Moving forward, every step I took was headed in the right direction. After High School, I moved to LA and began to pursue my dream. I wasn’t always on the right path, sometimes I went left when I should’ve went right, I took detours, made u-turns, and stopped at stop signs for way too long. Like most people with a dream—society, things, and circumstances tell you—you can’t achieve those dreams. Eventually you start to believe and the dream diminishes. Somewhere along the road you realize that life is too short, that time is too precious, and it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. So, you just continue on because you know in your bones that this is what you should be doing.
I’m not one to make resolutions, just one to keep pursuing my dreams—and January 2013 just happens to be when I came to that conclusion.
Stay tuned and come along on this journey with me.
